Annual Research Performance Awards Ceremony for the Year 2022 organized by ORIC, University of Malakand.

“To compete in the global market, it is essential to align our research priorities and syllabus with the international demands which would enable us to produce quality graduates”, this was stated by Dr. Najeeb Ullah, Minister for Science, IT, Sports and Youth Affairs, Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa who was chief guest during the 3rd Annual Research Performance Awards Ceremony here at the University of Malakand.

He encouraged students to work hard and excel in their respective areas as there are ample career opportunities within the country and abroad for bright students. The worthy chief guest also pledged to provide sports equipment for the university gymnasium and announced the establishment of data center at University of Malakand.

The minister also stated that University of Malakand will be the focal point of the government new Science & Technology Youth initiative. He inaugurated Smart Classroom established with financial support of HEC and was impressed with research infrastructure of the university.

The worthy Chief Guest congratulated all the award recipients for their outstanding academic and research contributions in their respective fields.

Honorable VC UoM Professor Dr. Rashid Ahmed stated that without right incentives and funding, no pathbreaking research is possible in any field. The VC announced the establishment of Seed Capital for Startups of Students worth one million rupees. He also pledged to increase the budget of Short-term Research Projects from Rs. 1.5 million to Rs. 3 million from the next year.

He stated that to enable faculty members, the university has continued this excellent initiative of awarding short-term research projects to researchers who are addressing local impact-oriented challenges.

Following review and recommendation of independent evaluation committees, 14 faculty members were awarded short-term impactful projects of Rs. 100,000 each. In addition, there were research performance awards for best researchers at the university as well as faculty levels. Faculty members who have won national and international research projects were also awarded Project Excellence Awards.

The event was organized by Office of Research, Innovation and Commercialization (ORIC). Maqsood Mazhar, Manager Research Operations ORIC and Fazli Subhan, Manager Business Incubation Center (BIC) highlighted the role of ORIC at the university and how it has helped in the transformation of research landscape.

The event was attended by Deans of faculties including Professor Dr Ata Ur Rehman, Professor Dr Sultan Alam, Professor Dr Mir Azam Khan, Professor Dr Arab Naz, Professor Dr Muhammad Nisar, Professor Dr Jamil Ahmad, Professor Dr Shafiq Ur Rehman, faculty members, officials and a large number of students.
