Daalai – a Team from University of Malakand, defied all odds, and scored 2nd position in the Social-Preneurship in IBA – Invent 2013 Nationwide business plan competition; the largest business plan competition in Pakistan. Dalai team received Rs 100,000, including Rs 50,000 in seed money as an award for its achievement.
Invent is a national level business plan competition, organized by Institute of Business Administration (IBA) Karachi every year. . Themed “Ideas Today: Businesses Tomorrow”, this year 1,600 students from 140 of HEC recognized universities spanning across seven cities participated in the competition. More than three hundred ideas were submitted to the competition out of which only 16 made it to the final round. Amongst them, two teams from the University of Malakand had the honor to represent the Province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and echo the talent of Malakand region at National Level.
Prof. Dr. Johar Ali, Vice Chancellor, University of Malakand congratulated the team for achieving the distinction and hoped it to be continued in the future as well. While stressing the importance of entrepreneurial mindset in Pakistan, he said that such events needs to be held frequently and promised all kind of support. He also appreciated the efforts of the teams’ advisor Mr. Fazli Subhan in preparing the teams and guiding them towards success.
The Office of Research, Innovation & Commercialization (ORIC) at University of Malakand had earlier organized an orientation and training session for the students of the University and had been supporting the teams throughout the competition, with Fazli Subhan, Manager Research Operations, acting as advisor to the students and helping them prepare their business plans. Prof. Dr. Rashid Ahmad, Director ORIC, also congratulated the team comprising of Mr. Asif Khan (BBA 8th), Mr. Naveed Khan (BBA 6th), Miss Gul e Rukhsar (BS English 2nd), and Miss Shama Safi (BBA 8th) and Campus Coordinators Fazli Subhan and Shah Khalid for their efforts. Dr. Arshad Ali, Assistant Professor, and Mr. Asif Imran, Communication and Publication Specialist, ORIC, accompanied and supervised the team during the finals at the IBA Karachi.
